I was pointed to Tetris Friends, a Tetris game for Facebook, by one of the site’s readers. I went to the site and started playing and it has the same addiction value as the original Tetris. The concept is the same as any other Tetris game, you place falling blocks on the board so they make a complete line, with no holes, and the line disappears from the screen. Players have to keep the screen from filling to the top by deleting lines on the board.
Tetris Friends is actually three different kinds of Tetris games at one place. Players have the option to choose Tetris Marathon, which means the player needs to survive through 15 levels, Tetris Solo, where players have to last as long as the song that is playing and the player chooses the song and Tetris BlockStar, which is a remake of the first Tetris game for Facebook.
It wouldn’t be a Facebook application if you couldn’t invite your friends. Tetris Friends allows players to challenge their friends. The challenge is based on score. You get to play the Tetris game for a certain amount of time, governed by the song chosen. The score you have at the end of the game is recorded and your friend is sent a challenge to beat your score. You can have multiple challenges to multiple friends going at the same time.
Tetris Friends adds an entirely new layer of addiction to Tetris. Tetris is an addicting game as it is, but now you have the added addiction of trying to beat your friends. Not to mention, you have three different ways to get your Tetris Fix. If you haven’t already played Tetris Friends, you should.
