4th & Battery, an experimental label from PopCap Games, has announced the release of Allied Star Police for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. 4th & Battery worked with Owain, a Make-A-Wish recipient, to make his dream reality. Owain came up with the idea of the game and his dream was to have the game become a game everyone could play.

Allied Star Police is a side scrolling game that is a combination of a real-time strategy game and a tower defense game. The goal is to reach and destroy the Flamion Base. Players have vehicles, such as Hovercraft SuperVehicle and the mysterious G.S.L.C. to try and take out the base.

“Owain was literally like every other designer and developer I’ve worked with,” said Matthew Lee Johnston, Senior Producer at 4th & Battery. “The minute he walked in the door he handed us a fully realized game design, figured out to the last detail. He stuck with that vision, and directed the team through the development process like a pro. When he first sat down to play it, he naturally knew what to do and won his first round easily, which felt to us like we did a good job executing on his plan.”

If you like real-time strategy games, head over to the Apple App Store and check out Allied Star Police. The game is free to download and play.

Press Release Follows:

SEATTLE, Washington – July 21, 2011 — 4th & Battery (www.4thandbattery.com), the experimental label from PopCap Games today announced Allied Star Police™ App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the App Store. The game was conceived and designed by nine-year old Owain Weinert, a Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska & Washington® recipient residing in the Seattle area.

Allied Star Police is a side-scrolling, top down arcade-style game featuring a combination of tower defense and real-time strategy gameplay. Players take on the classic good vs. evil story set in a futuristic fictional world. Imagined and designed by Owain Weinert, and developed by members of 4th & Battery, Allied Star Police is fun for all ages.

“I have to say, my brother can’t stop playing it, my dad can’t stop playing it, and neither can I,” said Owain. “This started off as a dream of mine, and now my friends and people all over the world can play my creation.”

In the game, powerful Allied Star Police (ASP) units are available for your deployment, including the Hovercraft SuperVehicle and the mysterious G.S.L.C. to help battle against the evil Flamion units, including the Mechazoids and Commandoids. Players fight their way through three difficulty settings – Newbie, Veteran, and INSANIFIED – and three exotic intergalactic locales – Earth, Mars and Flamiar – as they attempt to reach and destroy the Flamion Base.

Over the last few months, as a part of “PopCamp,” an in house event where developers get to work on whatever projects they want, developers from the 4th & Battery studio worked intimately with Owain. Coming into the office weekly, Owain worked hands on with the team to make his app dream a reality.

The Allied Star Police App is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. 4th & Battery is expected to produce several games per year, primarily small-scale, arcade-style games for platforms ranging from PC to Facebook® and iPhone.

The maps are not huge and the control mechanisms are suppose to be straight forward and easy to use.

There are different play modes available for play. Players can choose to play short campaigns with Domination objectives. Players have to take control of key objects on the map to win in Domination mode. The other mode available is Conquest battles where players have to wipe their opponents off the map to win. All enemy forces must be destroyed. These are longer games.

“Creat Studios is excited to introduce Mushroom Wars as our seventh title on PlayStation® Network in 2009,” said Anton Petrov, President of Creat Studios. “Gamers of all ages will quickly become addicted to Mushroom Wars, with its strategic and engaging gameplay.”

Press Release Follows:

October 14, 2009 – Creat Studios (Canton, MA) today announced the release of Mushroom Wars for the PlayStation® Network. Mushroom Wars will be available for download on the PlayStation 3® computer entertainment system, offered via Sony’s PlayStation® Network on October 15th in North America and Europe.

Mushroom Wars is an all-ages, fast-paced, real time strategy (RTS) game that brings arcade skirmish gameplay to the forefront. With a quaint visual style featuring opposing tribes of mushroom armies, your battles take place in close-quarters maps using simple, straight-forward controls. Upgrade your bases to support larger armies, improve weaponry or act as defensive installations. Local multiplayer allows
players to determine the toughest little army in the meadow. Move your armies into position and hopefully win the day.

Mushroom Wars for PlayStation Network features:

· Test your strategic tactics. There are 18 levels you can play in Skirmish mode. As you progress through the levels, the number of AI opponents increases. Do you think you can overcome three AI mushroom armies? Don’t worry, there are three difficulty settings.

· Need a change of scenery? With 25 levels in Campaign mode, you can battle in the meadow, forest and foothills of mushroom land.

· Divide and conquer. Local multiplayer allows two players to battle on the couch.

· Additional features. Includes custom music support and players can upload their gameplay to YouTube.

Mushroom Wars will include PlayStation 3 Trophy support and has been rated “E” for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board for this platform.

Imagine being in control of a space base and having to defend against an enemy, as well as traders in your rankings. Everything was going well, asteroids were yours other planets were potentially yours and then you discovered someone in your own ranks had hit the self destruct button in your space base. Why your space base has a self destruct button is a different story, but someone has engaged the self destruct button and now your base is going to explode if you don’t get to the enemies base and destroy it first in Space War Commander.

Space War Commander is a real time strategy game, but it is different than other real time strategy games it is more casual in nature, since the time to beat most levels is short. The goal of the game is to destroy your opponent space base as fast as possible. Normally, a real time strategy game is about building up your troops and fortifying your base, which normally takes some time. Space War Commander is about money. The more money you can obtain the better. Money allows you to build ships to capture resources and defeat your opponent. The faster you can obtain money the faster you can send your ships in and defeat your enemy.

Players use the money obtained to build ships. There are a few different types of ships and of course each ship has a trade off. The bigger, more expensive ships can take more damage and deal more damage, but they are slow. Remember you are in space and your opponents space base is not always close to your space base. The cheaper ships are great because they are cheap, but they also take less damage and deal less damage. On the other hand the cheaper ships are fast and can intercept enemies quicker. Intercepting enemies is important.

It is essential to intercept the enemy ships before they get to your space base that way you can stop them before they get to your base and earn $5 in the process. Killing an enemy ship has the benefit of stopping it before it reaches your base, which saves your base from the damage, and has the benefit of earning you money.

Space War Commander takes a good amount of strategy to beat the opponent. Even the introductory levels are challenging to beat. The game is challenging, but definitely in a fun way. The challenge is such that it gets addicting. The computer can be beat, but players have to figure out how to beat it. If you are overwhelmed by the game, there is a great forum and the members can help you out, as well.

Space War Commander is a great twist on real time strategy games. The game becomes very addicting and minutes turn into hours played. The game requires small increments of time to play and fits in with with casual styles. If you are a real time strategy fan, you can’t go wrong with Space War Commander.

A card-based Real Time Strategy (RTS) game sounds a bit strange, but that is the concept Electronic Arts (EA) went with in BattleForge and according to Ars Technica, who got a chance to play the game, it is a great game. EA made a strange sounding idea work really well.

The goal of the game is to make a deck of cards that beats your opponents deck of cards. Your opponent can be the computer or up to four other players in multi-player mode. Players need power, which is found through out the levels, to make their decks “work” and push forward.

The cards come in three different types, units, structures and spells and each card has an element it needs. Each element is focused on a specific situation, for instance, frost cards are defensive cards and fire cards are the aggressive cards. Players lay the cards down face up and begin to battle. In the battle, each card can only be used a set number of times, so strategy comes into play. Players can’t continually use one powerful card against their opponent. They must strategically play cards. Another strategy that must be managed, is the fact that some cards require orbs, as well as, power to play. Players have to manage orbs and power for those cards.

BattleForge sounds like an interesting game and card games, of this nature, seem to do well. Magic the Gathering was a huge hit, in its time. Not to mention, Urban Rivals does really well. Sounds like EA developed a fun and different game, that could become the next big hit.

Crave Entertainment has announced the release of Defendin’ De Penguin, a real time strategy game aimed at children, for the Nintendo Wii and DS. The goal of the game is to save Penguin Town’s fish from the hungry predators looking to steal the fish.

The main character, Little Blue, needs to use a few different techniques to stop the invading predators. Players have to take into consideration defensive placement, strategy and timing. Players place the towers down to defend penguin land. They need to place the towers strategically to cover all of penguin land and stop the invaders.

Real Time Strategy games are hard to make work on a console, in my opinion, but the Nintendo Wii and DS are probably the best fits. Since the game is aimed at children, Defendin’ De Penguin, should be fairly easy to play on a console system.

Defendin’ De Penguin is available for $29.99

Newport Beach, CA — September 2, 2008 — Crave Entertainment, a leading distributor and specialty publisher of console videogames, has released Defendin’ De Penguin(tm), the first real time strategy game designed primarily for kids twelve and under, for the popular Wii(tm) and Nintendo DS(tm) systems. Help Little Blue fend off hungry creatures eager to steal Penguin Town’s fish supply. Using the perfect combination of tower utilization, defensive placement, timing and strategy, Little Blue will save the day.

Defendin’ De Penguin was named “Best E3 Wii Game Runner-Up” by 1UP Network. IGN commented, “For the audience it’s intended for-the young gamer who’s never played any strategic game at all before-this could be a great first step into the concepts of the genre.” GameZone said, “As the truly first real-time strategy game that is geared towards kids 12 and under, Defendin’ De Penguin will have kids wanting to save the little fur ball from danger.”

Players use wits and strategy to protect Penguin Town by placing defensive towers to thwart hungry invaders who are stealing the fish supply. Choose from eight different tower types that release an array of environmental ammunition, such as snowballs, ice cubes, icicles and frost to deter woolly mammoths, snow men, seals, snapping turtles and more. Direct Little Blue to catch more fish and retrieve special power-ups so you can upgrade towers to increase attack range and strength as your enemies expand in size, strength and smarts.
Defendin’ De Penguin is available now for Wii and Nintendo DS for a suggested retail price of $29.99.

About SteamIron

SteamIron is an epic re-imagining of a classic space opera set in a science fiction universe. The story stems from an alternate history, projected far into future where the electronic revolution as we know it never occurred.

Although the universe is recognizably futuristic, everything is grounded in the mechanical world. From inter-stellar space ships to advance communications all technologies are decidedly retro in their derivations.

The story starts on this alternate Earth under the iron vice of the Ternion Empire that covers all known lands. The empire is a conference of the offices of the Emperor, his elusive elite guard (the Modan) and the misguided religious organization of the Pax Imperium. SteamIron chronicles the political struggle within the Ternion as each of its factions fight for power and control.

Do you like Real Time Strategy games? If so, Deep Quest is your type of game. You need to help the Abyssians conquer the Gordlons. The Gordlons have captured Abyssian Princess and the king. You command the Abyssians’ Army and lead them into battle.
Deep Quest is a real time strategy game. You are in charge of your destiny. You need to build your main fortress along with all of the training units for your troops. There are little “worker bees” that are in charge of building buildings and mining crystal and other elements you need to train your troops and build your buildings.

There are ten quests that walk you through the story line. The first set of quests hold you by the hand and tell you what you need to do. After the first few missions you are on your own. You take the skills you learned in the beginning missions and put them to the test.

As you progress you will be able to upgrade your buildings to train better troops. Of course the enemy will be able to do the same thing. The troops you are able to make are equivalent to what the enemy can do, but you need to decide how many of each troop you would like to make. The stronger troops take more resources to make.

The AI in the game is good. The computer is easier in the first few missions. As you progress the AI becomes more challenging. The computer knows which troops to train to make completing your quests challenging.
The graphics in the game are really nice looking. The underwater world is beautiful. There is a small map of the entire level complete with fog of war, meaning you can’t see an area until you have explored there.

Over all I found the game awesome. I really enjoyed playing Deep Quest. There is a great mix of strategy planning to win the later quests. I kept playing one more level over and over again.
