Dyad Revealed for PSN

PlayStation US Blog has announced a new abstract racer for PlayStation Network on the PS3 called Dyad, which is a weird melding of Rez and Wipeout.

Dyad is an abstract racing game that has influences in many genres including racing games, fighting games, puzzle games and classic arcade shooters. According to the blog, it does away with the traditional racing game mechanics of break and accelerate and replaces them with puzzle-like mechanics. You must interact with your enemies in unique and varying ways in order to gain speed.

The developer, Shawn McGrath, revealed that his team had been hard at work on Dyad for the past three years. The game runs at 60fps at 1080p.

Meridian4 has announced the upcoming release of Post Apocalyptic Mayhem for the PC. Players get the chance to try and win a race by any means possible. Anything goes to get yourself to the finish line first.

Players will have to enjoy combat and get use to it, because that is the only way to win in Post Apocalyptic Mayhem. Players race around the track using speed and guns to try and win the race. Players can play by themselves against the computer or with their friends in multiplayer mode. Each vehicle has different attributes and different weapons to use.

“The most important element of creating a vehicular combat racer is to have the right mix of speed, challenge and destruction,” said Steve Milburn, Marketing Director of Meridian4.  “Post Apocalyptic Mayhem does this seamlessly by combining daring and visually appealing track design with deadly vehicles and easy to learn controls.  Add in the ability to play online against five friends and a consumer friendly price of $9.99, and Post Apocalyptic Mayhem is an amazing value.”

Namco has announced the upcoming release of Ridge Racer Accelerated HD for the iPad. Players can race around the course, but instead of steering around the turns, they are encouraged to drift around the track. The drifting will fill the nitro gauge and let the player speed to victory.

Players can choose the method to control the cars. There is a virtual steering wheel on the iPad that can be used to steer the car. If a virtual steering wheel is not your thing, you can opt for the tilt control method. Players can tilt the iPad to steer the car. Players also have the option to try out the game before they buy it.

Web Game: HydroStorm

HydroStorm is a racing game that takes place on Jet Skis. The player has to race around a water track and try to finish in first place while battling the other racers. The object of the game seems pretty simple, but to achieve the objective is not all that easy.

The other racers in the game will try to knock you out of first place by throwing missiles at you or other explosions. If you are hit by the explosion you will blow up and inevitably lose first place. Usually, I was knocked back into sixth place and had to battle my way up to first place again.

There are three laps to try and get into first place and hold first place. As the player is racing around the track they can get boxes, much like the question marks in Mario Kart for the Nintendo. The crates hold weapons that can be used against other players making it easier to obtain first place or hold onto first place.

The graphics are nice for a web game. The water looks like water and the tracks can be tricky to navigate with the great scenery on each side of the track. The first race takes place at a ship yard and the race track is created by old shipping buildings and old ships.

If you are into racing games, check out HydroStorm. You can’t go wrong with a free to play game.
