3 “Freemium” MMO Games for Android

Storm8 has announced three new “fremium” MMO games that play off your Android mobile device, using Google’s mobile OS. The MMOs are simple simulation and role-playing games — City Story, Fashion Story and Zoo Story. The games were quietly launched in the past few weeks on Android, but Storm8 is officially announcing them now.

City Story allows you can create a virtual city with all types of businesses, residences, and decor you can purchase and place anywhere you choose. You earn money from factory contracts, cleaning buildings and gifts from your neighbors – who are either AI or real-life Facebook friends. Fashion Story has the player running a clothing boutique, where they choose and stock the very latest fashions and designs, then layout the store and changing rooms before preparing for the shopping rush. Players can visit friends’ boutiques, and “like” items and give gifts. Finally, Zoo Story has players raising animals like snow leopards, tigers, koalas, zebras, crocodiles, ostriches and pandas, breeding and raising baby animals, and building crops to feed said animals.

All of the games are free MMOs, but supported by microtransaction content purchases. Previous “Story” games include Bakery Story and Restaurant Story.

You can download each game free from Android:

* Fashion Story

Angry Birds Sales Hit 12M

The Angry Bird train continues to roll, as 12M iPhone app sales have been sold, reports MSNBC.

The game is available in Apple’s App Store for iPhones and iPads, and recently launched for Android phones as well.

But what about those Windows Phone 7 devices? If you’ll remember, there was a bit of a flap earlier this year as Microsoft seemed to claim the game would be available on its new game-centric operating system — though Rovio said that wasn’t the case at the time.
But at Le Web 10, Hed had this to say on the topic: “We’re actively looking at WP7, we have a very good relationship with Microsoft. They just announced our game for the platform a bit ahead of schedule.”

Angry Birds Coming to Windows 7 Mobile?

Microsoft angered developer Rovio by including an icon for Angry Birds in their promotion for Windows 7 Mobile during a conference.

This resulted in an angry tweet from Rovio when some asked the developer about a Win7 version:

We have NOT committed to doing a Windows Phone 7 version. Microsoft put the Angry Birds icon on their site without our permission.

This doesn’t rule out the possibility of Angry Birds on the mobile platform – in another tweet from Rovio, they stated:

[It has] nothing to do with if we do or don’t [release the game on Windows Phone 7], it’s just that we decide that ourselves.

Microsoft apologized at TechFlash:

It appears information was mistakenly posted to Microsoft’s website, and has been removed.

The situation is likely that Microsoft and Rovio are negotiating a contract to bring Angry Birds to Windows 7 Mobile, but someone at Microsoft, probably in marketing, prematurely included the game in the presentation before an agreement had been reached between the two companies.

Would Angry Birds make you more likely to pick up a Windows 7 Mobile? Let us know.

Deadliest Catch Comes To Mobile Devices

Some of the captains may not be coming back for the next season of The Deadliest Catch, but you can play those captains in the mobile game. The mobile game has the same name as the show, Deadliest Catch. Players can choose which captain they would like to be and then pick the boat, crew and gear.

The game is much like the TV show. Players are in a race against time to stuff their tanks, have to battle harsh weather and get their crew home safely. The safety of the crew is paramount, but the captains have to balance safety and making money. Players have to stuff their tanks just like the captains on the show. This is your chance to find out what it is like to be a crab fisherman, but with much less risk and harsh weather.

Deadliest Catch mobile game is available for iPhone as well as other mobile devices. There are mini-games that give the player the option to play one of the mini-games as a stand alone casual game. If you like the Deadliest Catch show, check out the game.
