Microsoft Cancels 1 Vs. 100

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox Live PrimeTime show 1 Vs. 100 has been canceled, and there will be no third season.

According to Microsoft Game Studios GM Dave McCarthy:

When we started on this journey, we knew we were creating an entirely new genre of entertainment that would be a continually evolving concept. We’re very proud of the 1 vs. 100 team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we’ve learned to future programming.

The game started hot, with 114,000 simultaneous users, but interest waned, and the game lost advertiser support. The game was the first – and ultimately only – “PrimeTime” Xbox Live game. The best players were issued prizes of Microsoft points.

How disappointed are you in the cancellation of 1 Vs. 100? Let us know.

Koch Media has announced a range of games based on TV’s most popular game shows. The games are meant for family entertainment around the console, so it should come as no surprise that the games are coming out for the Nintendo Wii and DS. Koch will take the popular game shows on TV and turn them into a video game for the family to play.Koch Media

The new label focusing on the games is called As Seen on TV. The first game released will be a 3D version of Deal or No Deal. The 3D version is a follow up to the successful Deal or No Deal game released last year. Other games set to be released along side Deal or No Deal are Golden Balls, The Magic Roundabout and Are You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old?.

We are delighted to be launching the As Seen On TV range during the key Christmas retail period,” said Craig McNicol, Managing Director at Koch Media.“With its strong visual branding, competitive price point and superb line up of much-loved titles and TV personalities we expect this to be a massive hit with family audiences over the Christmas season.”

This is an interesting genre of games to focus on. It does make sense to focus on hit TV shows that are easily adapted into console games. Game shows already have a great following and brand recognition, so why not play off of that?

Thanks MCV

PC Deal or No Deal

Deal or No DealFocus Multimedia and Mindscape have made it possible to play the popular TV game show Deal or No Deal right on your PC in the comfort of your own home. Players don’t get to meet Howie Mandel, but they do get to put their luck to the test against the banker.

Players get to see how they would do when faced with the decision to take the big money the banker is offering or to say No Deal and continue to play. The decision is much harder when it is your money on the line. It is still fake money, but it is your fake money and your game on the line.

Craig Johnson, Managing Director of Focus Multimedia, commented: “The Deal or No Deal PC game has all the nail-biting drama of the trail-blazing TV show. With the ability to compete against family and friends, and a fully rendered 3D Noel Edmonds as your host, the Deal or No Deal PC game is going to top of a lot of Christmas lists this festive season.”

This is the UK version of Deal or No Deal so the money is in pounds and not dollars.
