Big Head Games has announced the release of Doodle Pool for the iPhon/iPod Touch. Doodle Pool allows players to take on some of the greats, such as Hugh Balls, Jonathon Rotten, Pretty Vacant and Bruce ‘The Boss’. Players can play different billiards games against some of the big names. The doodle part is the graphics of the game. The pool table and balls look like doodles. They have a nice polished look to them, but they are a doodle instead of a graphic that looks like a pool table.

Players can play US 8 Ball, US 9 Ball or UK 8 Ball in one or two players modes. There are timed modes too to make things a bit more challenging and exciting. Each time a player sinks a ball they get a point. Players also get points for winning the match. The one with the most points at the end wins and the score gets posted to a global leader board.

The controls are easier to use. Players can touch anywhere on the screen and pull back to make a shot. If you have ever played the game Angry Birds, the touch controls are similar to that game.

If you like billiards games or are looking for a billiards game that is a bit different, check out Doodle Pool in the Apple App Store.

Deep Silver Inc. and Dark Energy Digital have announced the availability of Inferno Pool on Xbox Live Arcade. The game is available for North America and Asia. If you live in one of those territories you will be able to download Inferno Pool.

Inferno Pool is a different type of pool/billiards game. Players battle it out to see who can clear their tables first, but the entire time they can be shooting potted balls at their opponents. There can be up to four players battling it out. Players have the option to stock pile their balls and then unleash and onslaught of destruction or shoot their balls as they become available.

Inferno Pool claims to be easy to play due to the simple control scheme, realistic ball physics and smooth game play. The game play may be easy to learn, but players will need to master Combos, Bank Shots, Kick Shots, Jump Shots, and multiballs to get the upper hand.

If you like billiards games, check out Inferno Pool on Xbox Live Arcade.

Press Release Follows:

Hermosa Beach, Calif. – October 28, 2009 – Deep Silver Inc., a publisher of interactive entertainment software and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Media, and Dark Energy Digital, a British developer and publisher of video games, today announced that “Inferno Pool” is now available in North America and Asia for Xbox LIVE® Arcade.

“Inferno Pool” is a revolutionary new arcade Pool/Billiards game where 1-4 local or online players battle to clear their tables while firing potted balls at opponents. Players can stockpile balls for a later onslaught, nominate their victims, and unleash devastating ball streaks and outrageous skill shots to trigger the punishing Inferno Mode. Alliances will be formed, friends will be betrayed, and the battle isn’t over until the stat screen appears. The game also includes classic 8 ball and 9 ball modes for 1-2 players, and the addictive, Inferno-fueled, race against the clock Endurance Mode.
Thanks to simple controls, incredible ball physics, and super-smooth gameplay, “Inferno Pool” is easy to pick up and play. However to become a true hustler players must master Combos, Bank Shots, Kick Shots, Jump Shots, and multiballs and unleash the devastation of Inferno Mode where flames fly out of the pockets and potting power is doubled. Inferno Pool includes unlockable ball designs, scalable AI opponents, practice modes, selectable arenas and table designs, stunning 60fps HD graphics, online leaderboards and challenging achievements.

ConsoleMonster.com gave the game a score of 85%, saying, “Inferno Pool plays sublimely; it’s quick, intense, fun and something that keeps the player coming back for another go. This is the Pool equivalent of Space Invaders Extreme, or Pac-Man Championship Edition.”

Moreover, “Inferno Pool” offers an Endurance mode where players try to sink balls under time pressure. Other features include scalable AI opponents, stunning HD graphics, online rankings, and challenging achievements.

Nintendo has announced that they will not be releasing any more peripherals for the Nintendo Wii, but that does not stop 3rd parties from releasing more peripherals for the console and that is just what Upshot Games is doing. Upshot Games has announced a RealMotion Pool Cue released along with their new game American Pool Deluxe for the Nintendo Wii.

Pool players have all types of game options in American Pool Deluxe, such as 8-ball, 9-ball or snooker. Players have the option to play head to head or play against three other people in multi-player mode. Players can also take the tournament route and play against other pool champions from around the world.

The game sounds like a good game for Billiards fans, but I am not sure about the peripheral it comes with. To use a pool cue without being able to brace yourself on a pool table seems harder than just using the Wii remote. Of course, that is just my opinion. The pool cue may be the best peripheral there is for the Nintendo Wii.

Looking to stress yourself out playing a bit o’ pool? Perhaps Mouse Breaker’s Original Blast Billiards is a game you should check out. If you’re into timed games requiring precise action, challenge and the threat of an explosion, Original Blast Billiards brings that all to the table for free.

This flash game isn’t a standard game of pool, it’s more casual in nature, making up new rules on an old style game. Instead of 8-ball or 9-ball you’re balls are little explosive bombs which you must stuff in the pocket before their time runs out. Each ball has the timer displayed on it so you cannot avoid the pressure of the time.

You have top spin and back spin as your tools but a bit of luck and a lot of skill will make you a winner. Unlike many traditional billiard video games, this flash game doesn’t give you the trace of a the line-of-site trajectory feature… you’re gonna need to eyeball it. This is what gives Original Blast Billiards its challenge.

Aim your mouse and shoot through 20-levels of difficulty, but beware, level 1 is a challenge, level 2 is a bit harder and level 3 is killer. On the third level you must play the game with a big pile of dynamite on the table–hit it and you’re toast. I can only imagine what’s awaiting you at level 20!

Try it for yourself, how far do you get?

If you’re not buying into the hype of Grand Theft Auto IV or you believe it’s not up your alley for gaming, that’s perfectly fine. However, there is something the reviewers aren’t telling you–this is the ultimate casual gaming title.

GTA IV has many of the big aspects of a popular casual game of its time, mini-games (bowling, pool, darts, etc), it can be played in ten or twenty minute sessions if you desire and contains a good deal of laid back content which can be worked at your own pace.

GTA IV is best described as TheSims meets the Russian Mafia. You’ll find you can spend a good amount of time going on virtual dates to play darts, grab a burger or hanging out with your friend at a strip club or playing pool. When not driving around town on missions you’ll be simulating life to the fullest experience possible, including sitting on the couch and channel surfing, watching infomecials, cartoons or perhaps hitting the cafe to use the Internet.

Does this sound like an action packed shooter? Not entirely, no.

The fact is, there is something in GTA IV for every gamer of mature age. Granted, it doesn’t have the content-building capabilities of a Second Life for 18+ but it does simulate life in many aspects in both a hardcore and casual manner. I’m leaning more towards casual than hardcore in most aspects with a mature content wrapper.

If you replaced the adult situations in GTA IV, such as spending money at the strip club, shaking down a payment from a restaurant owner or the “occasional” need to shoot at a police officer, you’d have a great life simulator for all ages. Although some folks at rockstar might be afraid of casual games, they sure do use the recipe for success in GTA IV!

The game does have ground breaking graphics, physics all wrapped in a real world environment with creative missions and intense action. However, it also simulates life so well with side quests that mix RPG aspects with casual gaming aspects that it’s no wonder why the title received a perfect 10 score.

Shuffle Snake Bites is a flash based billiards type game. The goal of the game is to hit the red ball and knock out all of the yellow balls on the screen. Players have to be sure not to knock the red ball off the screen when there are still yellow balls left or they lose the level. Players start out with five replays. Every time you lose a level, you have to use a replay. Players can gain replays back as they beat levels.

The levels start out fairly easy with no objects in the way, just yellow balls and a wide open playing field. As the levels progress, players have to contend with obstacles. Some of the obstacles are in the middle of the board and make hitting the yellow balls more difficult. Other obstacles are on the edges of the board and keep the yellow balls from falling off the edge in that spot.

Players have to contend with a clock that counts down as well as the obstacles. The higher levels bring more obstacles and give you less time to get all of the yellow balls off of the board. If time runs out before all of the yellow balls are off the board, you lose the level and need to use one of your replays.

Shuffle Snake Bites is an entertaining game. Shuffle Snake Bites gets challenging, but not too challenging. The difficult level was enough to keep the game interesting, but still allow you to beat the levels.

Midnight Pool 3D is a top notch billiards game for the PC. Players can play in story mode or arcade mode. Each mode offers a choice of 8 ball, 8 ball UK or 9 ball games. Story mode takes the player all over the United States playing against all kinds of different pool players. The main character always travels to the pool hall of the person they are challenging.

Each “level” is a challenge in some place in the United states. At the beginning of every challenge, players have to place a bet. The early bets start out with a low minimum bet, but as you keep winning and moving along the minimum bet becomes higher. The minimum bet is not the only money you win, if you win the challenge. Players get money for sinking balls on a combo shot, sinking balls one after another and mutli-ball shots. A multi-ball shot is when more than one ball goes in the pocket with one queue ball shot. After each level, there is a trick shot challenge. Players need to hit two balls in the pocket at once or hit the yellow ball into the blue ball without hitting any other ball on the table. Usually the balls are surrounding the blue and yellow balls. Players get extra money when they complete the trick shot, but do not lose money when they don’t succeed.

The controls to shoot the ball are nicely done. They are easy to use and easy to get use to. Players target the ball by moving the mouse to the left or to the right. As the mouse moves, there is a white line that moves and shows the player where the ball will go when it is hit. Line up the white guide line and the pocket and the ball will almost always go in. The force the player hits the ball with also makes a difference. Hit the ball too hard and it will bounce out of the pocket just like real life. Players can also put spin on the ball, but I found this difficult to do. There is a tutorial that walks you through the spin shot so you know how to do it.

Story mode is where you unlock all of the items in the game. Players unlock new characters, usually your opponent, new tables and new outfits. The only way to unlock these items is to play in story mode. The unlocked items are also available in arcade mode. There are seven available players and you start with two of them and have to unlock the other five.

The graphics in Midnight Pool 3D are great. The graphics are in 3D and the characters playing pool look real. Each character has an “attitude” that easily comes across in their actions and smack talk before the game. The pool table looks really nice and so do the pool balls. The background is always a pool hall and definitely looks and feels like one.

The game play is smooth and really addictive. I really enjoyed playing Midnight Pool 3D. Story mode is great and with the added smack talk from the characters, it makes you really want to beat them. The challengers in the beginning are easy, but as the game progresses the challengers get tougher and the shots get harder. Midnight Pool 3D makes computer billiards immensely enjoyable.
