Word Quest Review

Word Quest is a word search game for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The goal of the game is to find the list of words presented at the top of the screen. The screen contains a grid of letters and users have to find the word among the letters. Each time the user finds a word the word scores them points.

The word list changes each time the game is played, but it is the same game over and over. If you do not like word search puzzles, this game is not for you. On the other hand if you love word search puzzles, this game is definitely for you. Instead of carrying around a book of word searches, you can have an application on your iPhone that allows you to play word searches.

One of the features that keeps you wanting to play is the time factor. There is a superficial clock that runs while you are searching for words. The goal is to try and find all of the words before two minutes. If players are able to find all of the words before the two minutes, they will score bonus points. If they can’t find all of the words before two minutes, they just don’t get the bonus points, but the game continues. It is fun to try and see if you can beat your best score. Some puzzles are faster to solve than others for whatever reason and the challenge to beat my best time kept me playing a few more games.

Flash Game: Detweet

Detweet is an interesting take on a tower defense style game. The player sets up towers around the map to take out the enemies and the enemies are the interesting twist. The enemies are tweets from twitter. The player can decide which tweet they are tired of hearing about and type that word into the search engine. The tweets that contain that word are then shot down by your towers.

The towers can only be placed on the squares around the map. Players have to strategically place the towers so they will be able to kill the tweets. The towers can be upgraded to shoot further or can be upgraded to have bigger guns. The tweets keep coming until enough of the tweets have gotten by unscathed. The unharmed tweets appear on the side of the screen and when they have reached the bottom of the screen the game is over. Players try to get to the highest level possible.

Detweet is free to play. The game is entertaining and adds a creative spin to the tower defense game. If you like tower defense games, check out Detweet.

Shibuya Released On iPhone

Nevercenter has announced the release of Shibuya for the iPhone/iPod Touch and the iPad. Shibuya is a puzzle game that combines a tetris style game with a match three game. Players have to arrange falling colors into rows of three or more of the same color that can then be cleared by matching three or more of the same color.

Shibuya is fast paced and takes some fore thought to line up the colors as they are falling. The more colors that players can line up in a block the more point they will score. Another way to score a lot of points is through combos. The more combos the player can pull off, the higher their score will be. Their are two different modes of play and five different speeds. With so many options, there should be a mode for everyone.

“Shibuya is a deceptively simple design,” said Tom Plewe, Nevercenter’s president. “You can play it with one hand, and it’s easy to pick up the mechanics. But there’s a lot of depth, skill, and strategy, and most people find it challenging yet rewarding. After playing a few times, they find themselves making combos and surviving speeds which at first seemed impossible.”

If you like puzzle games, check out Shibuya on the Apple App Store.
