Bookworm Comes To The DS

PopCap Games has announced the release of Bookworm for the Nintendo DS. The game has been adapted for the Nintendo DS and is available at retailers nation wide. bookworm-ds

Bookworm is a word game, as you may have guessed, that challenges players to create words using letter tiles. The catch is the tiles have to be next to each other and players need to be able to draw a line from one letter tile to the next to spell a word. The bigger the word the more points that are scored and the bigger chance of a bonus tile appearing. The bonus tiles are power ups that help players along the way. As the game progresses, players will need to over come obstacles like flaming tiles. The flaming tile will need to be used before reaching the bottom of the board or the game will be over.

“Bookworm has set the gold standard in word games, boasting over 100 million downloads to date across a variety of platforms,” said Ed Allard, vice president of strategic development at PopCap. “With the Nintendo DS version, we’ve pulled out all the stops to give players even more deep content and specialized features than ever before.  These include a Multiplayer mode for the first time ever in the popular Bookworm series that allows users to go head-to-head using one or two cartridges, as well as a library building system that provides exciting new game action for both old and new Bookworm players.”

Play Chuzzle Anywhere

PopCap games has announced the release of Chuzzle on the iPhone/iPod Touch.  Chuzzle is a cute match three type of game and the person that designed it for the PC also had a hand in designing it for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The goal of the game is to match three or more of the same colored fur ball or “chuzzle” and clear it off the board. chuzzle-iphone

Each time a match is made it fills a meter and when the meter is completely filled the level is over and the player wins the level. If the player can not fill the meter in the allotted time, the level is lost and has to be played again. The levels get more and more difficult as the game progresses and, eventually, the chuzzles get locked in place and the entire row of chuzzles can not be moved until the lock is cleared. The locks are cleared by matching three of the same color chuzzle as the one with the lock on it.

“Chuzzle is another great addition to PopCap’s growing library of titles for the iPhone and iPod touch,” said Andrew Stein, director of mobile platforms at PopCap Games. “The touch screen of the Apple devices is the ideal interface for the ‘sliding’ mechanic at the core of the game.  This is a fantastic adaptation that delivers on PopCap’s outstanding track record for bringing out some of the most acclaimed games available in the App Store.  Young or old, male or female, everybody loves playing Chuzzle.”

Help Uncover Juice Gossip On Celebrities

PlayFirst has announced the upcoming release of Gotcha: Celebrity Secrets, a hidden object game for the PC and Mac. The goal of the game is to dig up as much gossip on the celebrities as possible. The player is a celebrity blogger and needs to uncover the hot, juicy stories to make her blog the best gossip blog it can be. gotcha

Players take on the role of Gaby. Gaby is new at celebrity blogging, but she is determined to catch the big story. The game takes a different spin on hidden object games and challenges players to find people instead of objects. The people are the main focus of a celebrity blog so it only makes sense to search for people and not objects. Granted, players are not searching for celebrities themselves, they are searching for informants that will give them the scoop on the celebrities.

“Gotcha: Celebrity Secrets is a larger-than-life spoof on the world of celebrity blogging, that puts a funny, interactive twist on our obsession with these popular sites,” stated Kenny Shea Dinkin, Chief Creative Officer for PlayFirst. “Because players are searching for people rather than objects, this fresh game offers a new spin on hidden object games and ties perfectly into the fiction of an up-and-coming blogger relying on informants to get ahead. There’s else like it out there.”

If you are into celebrity gossip and hidden object games, check out Gotcha: Celebrity Secrets. It sounds like a great take on a fun to play genre.
