Pentanimals Review

Pentanimals is a Tangram type puzzle game for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The goal of the game is to take the provided animal themed shapes and build those shapes into the provided picture. Pentanimals is based off the ancient chinese Tangram games, which are often used in classrooms to teach spacial relationship. Pentanimals is geared towards 5 – 9 year old children, but that doesn’t mean an adult can’t get enjoyment out of the game. pentanimals-2

The age requirement really depends on your ability to recognized how shapes fit together to form a bigger shape. If you are good at this type of game, you may find the puzzles provide a good challenge, but are not too hard. If you are not good at this type of game, you may need help solving the puzzles made for nine year olds. The setting is really a 9+ setting, so adults can be challenged.

The game starts out by displaying a big shadow of a shape in the middle of the board and provides smaller shapes on the sides of the board. The smaller shapes need to be put together to form the bigger shadow shape. Players need to be able to visualize how the pieces fit together to solve the puzzle. The player selects a piece by dragging it onto the board. The piece can be rotated, by tapping the piece, or flipped, by double tapping, to fit in the right spot on the board. If you can’t figure out where the piece would fit, have no fear, just double tap on the puzzle board and you will be given the placement of one piece.

Pentanimals encorporates a bright animal theme into the game. All of the pieces have animals on them and the animals are cute and bright. They are inviting to children.

Pentanimals may be geared towards 5 – 9 year old children, but that does not mean adults won’t find the game fun and challenging. This game appeals to both children and adults and some of the 9+ puzzles were challenging. If you are into Tangram type games or have a child that likes to steal your iPhone/iPod Touch and play games, you definitely need to check out Pentanimals.
