Bejeweled Blitz

PopCap Games has announced the release of Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. Bejeweled Blitz is a quick one minute version of Bejeweled. The game has done well in beta form and has attracted more than five million monthly users. bejeweled-blitz

“One-minute Bejeweled was initially an in-house joke,” said Jason Kapalka, PopCap’s chief creative officer, “because who’d think anyone would play a ‘casual’ game with such a frenzied time limit? But it turned out the one-minute timer actually made the game more accessible, as a bite-size entertainment for people busy doing other things on Facebook.” John Vechey, PopCap’s head of online and social projects, added, “The social nature of the game felt like the missing link. Playing Bejeweled on your own was always fun, but playing with and against family and friends takes it to another level.”

PopCap has not mentioned any plans to port other games to the quick time limit versions, but with the success of Bejeweled Blitz it may not be out of the question. We could see a 1 minute version of Chuzzle or Bookworm.

DinerTown Detective Agency: A Zany Detective Agency

dinertown-detective-agencyNormally, detective agencies take themselves pretty seriously and work hard at uncovering the mystery presented to them, but that is not the case in DinerTown Detective Agency. PlayFirst announced the release dates for DinerTown Detective Agency. Gamers that subscribe to the PlayFirst PlayPass will be able to download the game on June 23. If you do not have a PlayFirst PlayPass, you will be able to download the game on June 25. The game will be available for both the PC and the Mac.

DinerTown Detective Agency takes players to twenty different new locations in DinerTown to solve quirky “who dun it” mysteries. The game takes the no nonsense approach of mystery games and turns it around for players to solve silly cases like “Who stuck their finger in all the jelly donuts?” and “Who’s ordering pizzas to my house from the worst place in town?”. The cases may be silly, but they lead to a bigger mystery plaguing DinerTown.

“With DinerTown Detective Agency, we decided to present a fresh angle on the hidden object genre and entertain players in a challenging but uniquely satirical way,” said Kenny Shea Dinkin, vice president and creative director, PlayFirst. “Players will experience the comic irony in every aspect of the game including design, color, storyline, dialog, music and characters.”

DinerTown Detective Agency sounds like a fun take on the hidden object mystery genre. Sometimes it is nice to have games switch up the story line and approach the story line with a fun and entertaining perspective.

Color Lines Review

Color Lines is a puzzle game for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The goal of the game is to get five of the same color balls in a line. Color Lines is a popular game in Russia and has made it’s way to the iPhone/iPod Touch.  color-lines

The first thing to come to mind when hearing the game description was a marble popper type game, but that is not the case at all. Color Lines is a matching game, but not a marble popper game. The game is played on a grid and each time the player moves a ball to attempt to make a match more balls are added to the board. The goal is to beat the score of the King. The King’s score changes each time you beat him.

When the game starts out, there are randomly placed balls on the grid. The balls on the screen have random colors, as well. Players have to attempt to line up five or more balls of the same color by moving balls around the board. Each time a ball is moved and a match is not made more balls are placed on the grid. If a match is made, balls are not placed on the game board that turn. As you may expect, the more balls placed on the board the harder it is to maneuver the balls around and make matches. Players move the balls around by touching the ball and then touching the square the ball will be moved to. The ball will move to the touched square as long as there is a clear path to do so.

Over all, Color Lines is a great puzzle game. Each game is different because the colors of the balls are random. There are games that may not work out due to the placement of the balls and the particular colors, but the next time through the game may be beat easily. If you like puzzle games, you can’t go wrong with Color Lines.
