Snakeworlds is a remake of the old Snake game with the same type of game play, but in a much different setting. Instead of wandering around a flat level avoiding little squares on the board, players are rotating around a 3D globe trying to eat fruit and avoid obstacles. The obstacles are more in depth than little squares on the screen. Depending on the setting, players will be avoiding beach items such as lifeguard chairs and umbrellas or spooky items in the spooky world.
There are three different worlds available to play. The first world is a beach setting. The second world is a spooky setting and the third world is a secret until players can beat the other two worlds. The worlds determine the setting and the obstacles the player has to avoid while eating fruit.
In case you are not familiar with the game of Snake, the goal is to eat items and in this remake those items are fruit. The problem is the more fruit the snake eats the more the snake grows making it harder to avoid the obstacles. Another added challenge is the 3D world. It is not always easy to avoid yourself, which doesn’t cause you to die, but does cause you to lose bonus points.
Bonuses are given for the length of the snake and for completing the level quickly. It can be a challenge to complete a level quickly because you can’t always see the fruit since you are playing on a 3D globe. If the player is not too close to the fruit, the fruit will be marked with an exclamation point. The exclamation points make it easier to find the fruit on a 3D surface.
Snakeworlds is a fun remake of a great game. The 3D globe adds to the challenge of the game and can lead to motion sickness in sensitive people. I felt myself getting a bit motion sick as I was playing, but, oddly, I wanted to keep playing and try and get a good score and a big bonus. If you are into strategy/action type games, you can’t go wrong wtih Snakeworlds.
