Nano is a different type of game for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The goal of the game is to activate all of the nodes on the screen by guiding the “good” particles to the nodes and guiding the “bad” particles away from the nodes. The more good or benign particles that enter the node the more the node becomes energized, until it is fully energized and shields surround it. Each time a bad or malign particle enters the node they lose energy.
Players guide the particles by touching the screen. Each touch of the screen uses physics to guide the particles in a certain direction. The particles flow in a stream towards the nodes and each touch disrupts the stream and causes them to flow in a different direction. The flow of the particles is based on physics, which makes the game interesting.
There are multiple interesting things about Nano. One of the most interesting features is the fact that this game is relaxing in all senses of the word. The particle colors are soothing and the sound track is phenomenal. Don’t get fooled, though, the game can get challenging and not so relaxing in later levels. It is rare that a game is released with relaxation in mind. All games create relaxation in their own way, but this game is focused on it.
The sound track for the game creates the relaxing ambiance. The notes for the sound track were performed on an acoustic violin, electric violin, electric cello, and viola. Each time a particle enters a node a note is played. The more particles that enter the nodes the more notes that are played, which adds to the the relaxing state of the game.
Nano is a very different type of game. If you are a gamer that is into fast paced action games, this may not be the game for you. But, if you are a gamer that is looking for a relaxing, different type of game, this is the game for you. Nano is relaxing, fun and enjoyable all at the same time. The relaxation faded, for me, in the later levels, but the game was still fun and interesting. It is nice to see different types of games emerging for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
Nano can be found in the Apple App Store for 99 cents.
