Square Enix is probably best known for their Role Playing Games (RPG), Final Fantasy. The Final Fantasy franchise has been a hit with both Japanese gamers and Western Gamers, but they are looking to expand their empire into more casual game titles. Square Enix bought Taito a few years back and Taito has made games targeted at a more casual audience. my-pet-shop

“Square Enix continues to be known first and foremost for RPGS, but as any industry evolves you have to remain flexible, and the acquisition of Taito a few years ago has given us access to a wealth of quality games aimed at a more casual audience, along with other games Square Enix is developing for this market,” North American Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto told Casualgaming.biz.

More and more bigger named companies are entering the casual games market. This could be a good thing and a bad thing. Hopefully they are taking the market seriously and don’t intend to flood the market with a bunch of mediocre games. There may be a big audience for casual games, but they don’t want crappy games. They want good quality games.
