Everfall: A New PC Indie Game

everfallChaosTrend has announced the release of Everfall, a puzzle game for the PC. Players have to save the magical world of Barina by commanding the Wind. The wind is your friend and will help you on your adventure to save Barina. Players are the only hero left that can save the world so they need to be on their game.

Everfall was created with a brand new in-house game engine, called ChaosEngine. The game is the first game to utilize the engine, but there are more games in the works. The game engine allows for modules that can be programed using a custom scripting language. Sounds like players will be able to make their own modules for this game or future games that use this engine.

Peggle challenges players to clear all of the orange pegs off the board by bouncing a ball off the side walls or other pegs. Of course, there are bonus pegs spread throughout the level to help score points and clear those pesky orange pegs. Peggle is an extremely fun and addicting game and makes a great arcade style game. Players can play in little chunks of time, when it is convenient for them.

Feeding Frenzy 2 is the sequel to Feeding Frenzy and challenges players do eat smaller fish, but not get eaten by the bigger fish. The game takes some skill in avoiding the big fish, but being able to chase the smaller fish and eat them to grow bigger.

Heavy Weapon is a side scrolling shoot-em-up with a little humor thrown in there. The game has seen great success on Xbox Live and can be played multi-player. In fact, all of the games in the arcade collection can be play in multi-player modes. All of the games include achievements, as well.

If you are a big PopCap fan, and who isn’t, head to your favorite retailer and pick yourself up a copy of PopCap Arcade Volume 2.

Wandering Willows Review

Imagine you finally got a chance to ride in a hot air balloon, just to have it crash onto a secluded island. Throw in there similarities to the TV show Lost on ABC and you have yourself Wandering Willows by Playfirst. The main character, you, has crashed onto an island and you are trying to get off the island and back to your “normal” life. To get off the island you need to fix your balloon and that is where the adventure begins. wandering-willows-2

Wandering Willows is a casual Role Playing Game (RPG) and the point of the game is to help out people on the island so they help you fix your balloon. The different people on the island give you quests and completing the quests helps out the people on the island. The quests range from getting items for them, making clothes or making food items. The different food items and clothing items all require other items to make. The main goal is to gather as many items as you can, but the downfall is your bag is only so big. Players can make their bag bigger for an added cost.

The items are gathered using different mechanisms. Players have a pet with them at all times and the pet does most of the dirty work. The items that need to be gathered are found in trees, such as fruit or nuts, found in the ground, such as copper, oil or glass, found by charming other animals around the world or grown using seeds. The charmed animals will drop different types of items from wool to yeast. The players pet flies up and gets the items from the trees, digs the ground to get the items from the ground and charms the other animals so they drop items.

As the player progresses through the quests, they pick up more patterns for clothes or recipes. The charmed animals can also drop patterns or eggs. The eggs can be incubated to get you another type of pet. Each type of pet has their special abilities and some are more well rounded than others. The different types of pets keeps the game interesting and gives you something else to collect besides items.

wandering-willows-3The game world gets big after some adventuring and, eventually, you get a way to teleport back to the main cities. The teleport is nice and saves a bit of walking time. There are still quests to be complete on both worlds so the teleport saves players from having to walk back and forth over and over.

The graphics in Wandering Willows are great. The different character’s clothes change as you make items for them and each article of clothing is displayed on your picture so you can see what it will look like. The different animals in the game are cute and look vastly different. They all have different qualities that are clearly seen.

Wandering Willows is extremely addicting. The game is not extremely different from other RPGs, but for some reason I found myself being sucked in over and over. I kept saying one more quest and I am going to stop. Of course, one more quest lead to one more quest and the pattern continued for an hour. I wanted to keep completing quests to get closer to fixing the balloon, but the game is huge. There is plenty of game play for the biggest RPG fan and Wandering Willows is definitely worth the $19.95.
