Megaplex Madness is a game made by Gold Sun and is available for both the PC and the Mac. The goal is to take a run down historic old theater and turn it into a thriving Megaplex. To do this you have to keep the customers moving, and keep them happy.
In order to fix up and improve your theater, you must keep your customers happy while getting them in to see their movies as quickly as possible. A customer will walk onto the screen, and let you know what they need (tickets, popcorn, restroom, etc.) with a little thought balloon over their heads, similar to most time management games. What you do next is actually lift them up by the scruff of their necks and place them where they need to go. You can even give them a little shake before you put them down. Anyone who has ever worked retail will find that rather therapeutic.
Each customer has one to five hearts over his or her head, with each heart counting as a dollar. The hearts decrease if they are displeased, if they have to wait for instance, and increase when they are happy. Each level has a dollar amount set as a goal. If you reach that amount before time runs out you move on to the next level. Surpass that amount and you can earn arcade tokens, good for playing classic arcade mini-games, or repair credits, good for fixing up your theater.
The graphics in this game are reminiscent of The Sims and other games in that genre. They are bright and cartoony, while still having a good attention to detail. The arcade mini games are faithfully recreated, with minor changes to the themes of each. For instances, Space Attack instead of Space Invaders, Rabbit instead of Frogger, etc..
Megaplex Madness is a fast paced game that will keep you on your toes. If you enjoy time management and sim type games you’ll definitely want to check this one out.
