Feyruna 2 is a puzzle game for the PC by Jochen Kårcher. A direct sequel to the game Feyruna, Feyruna 2 picks up just after the end of the first game. Unfortunately, after their defeat, the Princess of Darkness have left behind Dark Crystals that are sapping the vital energy of the inhabitants of the Fairy Forest. Now it is up to the Druids to rid the forest of the crystals and save the day. Sadly, the Druids seem to have lost all their powers, so it is up to you to supply Magic Balls to the Druids and reactivate their dormant magic.
The game play for Feyruna 2 is completely different from its predecessor. In this game you steer a Magic Ball around a series of platforms filled with traps and perils and into the hands of a waiting Druid. The levels contain numerous Druids to “activate” and a Dark Crystal that slowly gains power as time goes by.
Each Druid on the screen is a different color, and you must find ways to alter your ball to the correct color for each druid as you progress through the level. Once all the Druids have been activated by Magic Balls, they will have their powers back and destroy the crystal. The trick is to get to all the Druids before the Dark Crystal’s power reaches critical.
The level comprises a single screen made up of multiple platforms. Once you let the ball go, it will begin rolling in a straight line, pretty much falling off of the first ledge it can find. Luckily, you can change its course by blocking it’s path with your cursor.
There are trap doors that can be open and closed to drop the ball down levels or trap enemies, and activate portals to move quickly from platform to platform. You can pass the ball through special stones that can grant power up, such as a color change or the ability to glide safely down drops that would otherwise shatter the ball. Once you have cleared the level and the Druids have destroyed the crystal, you move on to the next one, progressing your way level by level across a map of the forest and the surrounding lands, just like in the first game.
The graphics for Feyruna 2 may be simple, but this is another game where the graphics take a back seat to game play and strategy. Some of the levels can be quite tricky, but the game offers a good tutorial and plenty of tips to get you going. As you move around the map, the background art and music changes as well, giving you a nice feeling of exploration.
If you are looking for a great puzzle game, you can pick up Feyruna 2 for $19.95. If you missed the first version of Feyruna and would like to check that one out too, there is a special fun pack containing both Feyruna and Feyruna 2 with a bonus screen saver, which sells for $29.95.
