Cooking Dash is a time management game, by PlayFirst, for the PC and Mac. Flo makes a return as the main character of a game and not just a fleeting appearance. The main chef has left Flo’s restaurant to appear as a chef on a reality show. The player has to help Flo cook the food the customers order and get the food to them before they lose their temper and storm out of the restaurant.
Cooking Dash adds another level to the time management genre. Many of the time management style games require the player to keep the customer happy and when it comes to restaurant games the player normally has to deliver the order to the customer. In Cooking Dash, players have to cook the order as well as deliver the order. The customer walks up to the counter with a meal they want and the player has to cook the meal, which involves frying items, grilling items or giving Granny an order to make. The fryer and grill work themselves once the food has been dropped in/on them and the player clicks the device. The fryer or grill will turn green when the food is ready and the player has to grab the food before it burns.
The levels start out easy and the first few serve as a tutorial. Once the tutorial levels are complete, the player has to use the skills they just learned. The levels get difficult quickly. The customers make the levels much more challenging and the need to cook the meals adds another task to juggle and complete. There are so many things going on it is challenging to complete them all and keep the customer happy.
The graphics in the game are nice looking and the food items are easily discernible. The locations change as the player progresses through the game and the graphics are always fitting of the location.
Cooking Dash is one of the more difficult time management games I have played. I found myself having to retry levels much earlier in the game than usual. That being said, the game is still fun to play. Cooking Dash is really addictive and even though it is challenging there is a good balance between challenge and fun. The game is definitely worth the $19.95.
