Challenge Games is a startup company that announced the release of it’s newest game, Baseball Boss. Aside from the game announcement, they also announced they have received Venture Capitalist (VC) funding by a Silicon Valley firm. Baseball Boss

Andrew Busey, the founder of Challenge Games, sees a hole in the casual games market. There are big, huge online games such as World of Warcraft and little bit sized games such as the games found on Pogo.com or Yahoo.com, but there are no free online games that capture the middle ground. The goal of Challenge Games is to develop free to play online games with more depth, but can still be played in a 15 minute time span.

“There’s a gaping hole in the gaming market right now,” said Busey, the company’s chief executive officer. “You’ve got the very intensive ones like ‘World of Warcraft’ that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to make and take hours to play. On the other side, there are the very casual, quick games you find on Pogo.com or Yahoo Games. We want to carve out something in the middle that has more depth but that you can still play in 15-minute increments.”

The game Baseball Boss falls into the game category the company is aiming for. Baseball Boss is an online multi-player game that allows players to collect and trade virtual baseball cards. Players then make teams out of their baseball cards to challenge other players. The team that wins the competition gets points and the points can be used to buy baseball cards. Currently, only the 1907 and 2007 baseball seasons are available, but more seasons will be added over the next few months.
