Boom BloxElectronic Art’s (EA) casual division has been in the news before for their comments regarding casual games and not worrying about bad reviews. This time the comments are a bit different. EA has decided to target specific aged gamers with their new casual games, but they decided to start with the new game Boom Blox from Steven Spielberg. It can make sense to target certain age ranges for games, but it doesn’t make sense to do that with a title developed with Steven Spielberg.

“Previously when EA has done early launches into casual games we’ve said ‘oh, these games are for everyone.’ But for something like Boom Blox we’re clear that the primary target market is eight to 12 years old, and we’re not even really approaching the gamer press.”

Boom Blox is a puzzle game for the Nintendo Wii. The object of the game is try and knock down jenga type block towers. Many reviewers have given the game a great review and think it is a lot of fun. Seems to me if your game is getting great reviews by all types of gamers, you shouldn’t be limiting the audience with the above comments.

Thanks Computer and Video Games
