It’s a good day when you find a free flash game that grabs your attention for more than twenty minutes. If you’re looking for a creative flash game with a good balance of challenge and fun, you may want to try 4 Wheel Madness.
Your goal is to drive a monster truck across a field of obstacles and complete the racing challenge in under one minute. This flash game offers simple controls: up-arrow goes forward, down-arrow goes backwards and right/left arrows balance your monster truck right or left.
You bounce over vehicles to obtain points and find green and red “S” marked balls to gain additional points before you reach the finish line. If you roll your truck, the game is over and you’ve got to try again. Although the controls are simple, you’ll find yourself balancing out your vehicles flight through the air with the left and right arrow keys trying to keep it level for the landing.
I’ve found your truck recovers from a bounce better if you land on the back wheels as opposed to the front wheels–much like a real truck. If you make risky jumps you could end up landing face first on a van, flip, and land on your roof; game over.
With about five minutes of game play you’ll get the hang of the balance and subtle physics within the game and be able to, hopefully, complete the first track. The initial track alone is worth 30 minutes of entertainment, but once you defeat that track you can move on the next one.
This game really shines in its ability to not be too difficult or ‘arcade’ style in level progression. When you lose level two you can restart level two… not jump all the way back to level one again. Nothing is more frustrating than spending ten minutes to beat level one and lose 30 seconds into level two because its new and unknown.
Overall, this is a sturdy game that holds up in the long run with addictive play. You know you’ve found a good game when you go back for more but you don’t understand what makes it so fun.
