Microsoft has created Silverlight to try and compete with Flash, but Silverlight does not work on every system like Flash does. Microsoft launched Popfly, which runs on Silverlight, over a year ago. Popfly was for creating mashups and widgets, but now Microsoft has added a Game creator to Popfly. The game creator is web based and is targeted at creating casual, web based, arcade style games. The games will be hosted on Popfly, but can be embedded on any web page. popfly game creator

The game creator is aimed at non-programmers. The idea is that anyone can create a casual web based game no matter how much programming experience you have. Users program games using twenty different templates. Users are able to modify the templates to their liking then the game is complete. The templates are all different types from space invader games to break out games and even shooter games. Users can choose from a vast array of different characters and backgrounds for their games or choose to create their own.

Microsoft is trying to make creating casual web based games as easy to create as possible and reel people in to using Silverlight. First get the “programmers” on board and then people will start using your technology. It worked with the Windows operating system guess we will have to wait and see if it works with the Silverlight technology.
