We’ve seen games like Madden get price cuts early in its release cycle and we chalked it up to “yet another Madden game,” but a Sega title? A month ago Sega Superstars Tennis arrived for the Wii, Playstation 3, DS, PS2 and Xbox 360 and all games just got cut in cost at GameStop.
By price cut we’re not talking $5.00 or 10% off, we’re talking a $30.00 price drop a month after release! You might feel the desire to run out and grab hold of this “sale,” but we’re wondering… is it a sale or a method to get a crappy product out of the warehouse?
As an owner of an online retail store I can tell you, inventory is a precious thing and a game store wants to have as little as possible. You hold just enough of the product to satisfy customers and not enough to have the product when people find out its a bomb. Nobody wants to get stuck with pallets of crappy product and GameStop isn’t any different.
Reviewers gave the title a 7 out of 10 in most cases, which isn’t too bad for a console game. Perhaps the game isn’t that bad and GameStop just happened to buy way too many? Interesting.
