THQ is stepping up their presence in the casual game space by acquiring Elephant Entertainment for an undisclosed amount and entering an exclusive publishing deal with Oberon Media. The acquisition of Elephant Entertainment puts THQ in line to release 20 new casual and online games in 2008.
Elephant Entertainment will merge with THQ’s casual division. Wim Stocks, the president and COO of Elephant Games, will continue to head Elephant Entertainment and will report to Doug Clemmer, president of THQ’s ValuSoft casual games division.
The deal with Oberon Media will allow THQ to publish Oberon Media’s hit games to other major gaming platforms. Oberon Media is known for great games such as their Dream Day franchise and Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet.
“The addition of Elephant Entertainment and our exclusive retail publishing deal with Oberon significantly expands the depth and breadth of our casual and online game offering,” said Doug Clemmer, president of ValuSoft, THQ’s casual games division. “These deals will allow us to expand our presence in this rapidly growing segment and deliver unique value to our retail partners through Oberon’s turn-key solution to deliver online games.”
