Racehorse Tycoon is an interesting flash-based game devoted to horse racing. Players have to manage most aspects of horse racing. Players select the horse they would like to play from four different horses. The horses all have different strengths and weaknesses and it is up to you to determine which horse will do the best.
Next it is on to selecting the jockey you would like to race your horse. The jockeys all of their stregnths and weaknesses as well. Players need to try and pair the best jockey for their horse.
Next players move on to pick the trainer for the horse. Again, the trainers all have different strengths and weaknesses. The quality the trainer is high in means your horse will get better in that quality when they race. For instance, if the trainer is good with speed, your horse will gain speed with each race. On the other hand if your trainer is bad at jumping, your horse will lose jumping skill each race.
Players then choose the food the horse will eat. The foods are not your typical horse foods. Players choose from burgers, cakes, beer and cheese. The horses do have preferences for certain foods. After a race is complete you are given a little blurb about what your horse likes and doesn’t like and food is one of those items.
Already, players have had to choose a few different things before being able to race the horse, but it is not over yet. The two last items to choose are the stables and the transportation. The stables range in quality from rickety old stable to the luxury stable. The transportation is the same, lower end vehicles up to higher end vehicles.
Very similar to real life, everything you choose costs money, horses, jockeys, trainers, food, stables and transportation. The lesser quality items cost less than the higher quality items and that includes horses, jockeys and trainers. Players start out with an initial sum of money and then gain money by placing in the races. Place first, second or third and you will win money. Players will win money randomly from record deals or other contracts that pop up. Players can lose money if their jockey or trainers cause problems.
The horse races are interesting. Players do not actually control the horse, but you do control how hard the jockey tries. The harder the jockey tries the better they do in the race, but the higher chance you will fall off your horse if you are required to jump. You really are a spectator in the race. The horses start out in the back of the screen and come around to the front of the screen. The finish line is at the front of the screen and the tracks are fairy short.
Racehorse Tycoon is strangely addicting to play. I kept trading up trainers to try and get my horses stats up in certain areas and trying to win the different races. The game is pretty simple on the surface, but balancing all of the stats can get challenging. I had fun trying to get the best stats possible and win every race I ran.
