Hawaiian Explorer: Pearl Harbor has you exploring the bottom of Pearl Harbor and surrounding areas such as beach huts, shops and underwater caves for a rare Japanese Diamond Medal. Hawaiian Explorer: Pearl Harbor is a hidden object game and a very difficult one at that. Each level is timed and each section of the game is timed, so you have to find the objects quickly in the levels to conserve your over all time.
The object of the game is to find the objects in each level that are listed in the list. The items are pretty difficult to find and they are hidden quite well. There are some objects that are in plain site and easy to find and check off the list. There are other items that are difficult to find and it seems even more difficult because you have to find the items before the time runs out. The other downfall is if you click the wrong item it takes time off your clock. The click detection seems to be off in a few spots because I clicked on the item and then I got a minus ten on my time and I moved a little over and clicked again and the item was selected.
The clock makes the levels really challenging because there is not a lot of time to find the items that you need to find. The up side is if you run out of time, you find different items in the same level. If you end up failing a few times, you will eventually go through the list of items enough that you can find everything on the list. The down side is all of the failed times eats into the over all time you have to do that phase of the mission.
Some of the items can be difficult to find, but there is a saving grace: three hints. The three hints cost you time though. They throw you a bone and then take it away. The hints do show you exactly where the item is that you are searching for. I used the hints for the last three items that I couldn’t find in the list to save on over all time for the mission.
The graphics in Hawaiian Explorer: Pearl Harbor are truly amazing. The levels look like photographs taken with a really expensive camera. The underwater levels even have fish that swim by occasionally. There really aren’t any words to adequately describe how beautiful the graphics are in Hawaiian Explorer: Pearl Harbor.
Hawaiian Explorer: Pearl Harbor is very challenging to play, but somehow the game still stays fun. I had great difficulty finding some of the items in the list, but I didn’t feel like I wanted to give up. I kept wanting to play and try to find the object again and again as long as it took. A game is truly fun when it is difficult but keeps you coming back for more.
