Nintendo WiiIn a conversation with the stock holders, John Riccitiello CEO of Electronic Arts (EA), admitted that EA was not prepared for the Nintendo Wii’s success. EA underestimated how popular the Nintendo Wii was going to be.

EA had all of their games available for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 at each of the console’s launch dates. For the Nintendo Wii launch EA only had two titles available. EA has gone on to make a studio dedicated to Wii development, but that was a week after the Nintendo Wii launch.

“[This transition has been] harder because of the complexity,” Riccitiello said, “and harder because unfortunately, we bet a little bit on the wrong horse in focusing so much on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and to a lesser degree on the Wii. And let me assure you that almost all of us in the industry made the same judgment. So after so many transitions of guessing exactly right, we got this one a little bit wrong and we’re dealing with that now with strong investments on the Wii.”
