Those organizing the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) have confirmed Kaz Hirai as their keynote speaker for the 2008 event. The keynote is said to be called “The Expanding PlayStation World, Business Strategy For New Growth.”
This is significant, because we’ve yet to see the PlayStation 3 expand in any way and show new growth, besides a mini-sale on PlayStation 3 consoles. Why would this spark the interest of a casual gamer?
Let me tell you why!
First, Sony said TGS was the place they’d release more information about little big planet. Secondly, casual gaming is “the place to be” in the market right now, proof by Electronic Arts moving into the territory and PopCap getting some fresh competition. Oh, did I mention the Nintendo Wii and its fame in the market and the attraction of Steven Spielberg into the segment?
If that’s not proof that Kaz will mention the casual gaming market, I don’t know what will convince you. The idea that casual games are fast to develop and highly addictive (if done right) can bring in a fresh set of gamers and non-gamers should attract any game developer and publisher.
Do you have any predictions as to what Kaz may decide to mention in his keynote? Maybe drop some casual game names in hopes to breath life into a very expensive product?
(Thanks, Gamasutra)
