Google announced that they plan on getting into game advertising. The game advertising will be very similar to the web advertising they have dominated for some time. Google is calling the advertising Adsense for Games.
Publishers of games will be able to use Google’s system to put ads in the games and get money from those ads much like Adsense on a web page. Likewise, there will be an option for advertisers to work with the Google system to put their ads in games.
Google is going to start with casual web-based games for their advertisement system, but they have plans to move into downloadable PC games and console games. There is no stopping the Google ad machine.
It only seems natural that Google would expand into in game advertising. Google controls one of the top web advertising systems. Many advertisers are starting to move to games for their ads, which is a growing business. The in game ad business is expected to reach 971 million dollars by 2011.
Google is in talks with Sony to put ads on the PS3. Google said “As soon as Sony says they’re ready, we’ll be ready,” he told the crowd at the Casual Connect conference.
Currently there is no timeline for Google ads to appear in games. Google said it will be “soon”.
