Popcap GamesThat’s what 1up kinda lead us to believe in this article. They talk about PopCap’s recent interview with gameindustry.biz. They may be on to something I didn’t see before.

Popcap games is known for their hot titles, no doubt about this fact. Now that Electronic Arts (EA) and SoGoPlay has found the casual money maker, PopCap will not be alone in the market. A few indy developers and small publishers have done well in the casual market, well enough to stay alive and profitable.

But what do you do when a mega-publisher like EA starts investing money in the market? What happens when they find out “wow, we can make a lot of money doing this”?

Popcaps “don’t just clone our games” message is a shot over the bow of those big developers that are getting into this space, right? One fact is known, PopCap has proven to pull off hot titles in short order! It may take EA and other companies awhile to get the nack of it and make great games.

If you’re unfamiliar with PopCap games, checkout my Popcap Venice review. And, if that’s not enough, check out the Peggle review at TechDiversions. If that’s not enough, go to popcap.com and download the demos for yourself.

Lets hope EA can put some pressure on the casual market and inspire more competitive hot games. They better have demos to try out, casual games is a risky market for buys if there are no demos available to trial.
